HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL

One of our jobs while on Nusa Penida is to clean the sides of the street.  It is really a tragedy what has happened here with the trash.  It continues to destroy the island and the ocean around it.  Additionally, when burned, the plastic is terrible to breathe.  And that is how most people handle trash here.

The elders so far have shown little interest in changing their ways.  The people in general are very poor and unwilling to spend extra money to have the trash removed.  The government does not seem to have any program or plan to fix the situation.

So we were out there picking up all kinds of trash on the street and to my right I see a little girl run out of her house with a small garbage bag.  She is watching us and begins to pick up the trash on her own yard.  She must have worked for a good twenty minutes and when her bag got full she came over to us and emptied it in the our garbage bag.

I am no expert on right or wrong, but I know what feels good and feels bad.

That moment felt really, really good.

I connect people to the truth of market places and human behavior and I have a little fun with it.  I am currently traveling the world writing my second book and blogging about my experience. I look forward to getting to know you and encourage you to post your feedback in the comment section of this blog.
