Today we took what the Balinese call a “fast boat” from Bali to Nusa Penida.  The “fast boat” is about the size of the Port Authority Ferry I used to commute on from New Jersey to New York City. Imagine that driven very fast across real choppy seas.  To add to the fun they blasted techno music for the entire 45 minute ride.

Surprisingly, there wasn’t any safety briefing.  But we made it.

The beach is beautiful here like much of the Caribbean.

Tomorrow we begin our work with the sea turtles and the local children.  I am excited.

On a side note for you Arkansas fans, they have razorbacks on this island.  They sound like awful hell and I wouldn't tangle with them.

We are staying in a homestay at a cost of $15 / day, which was a wise move because the "quarters" for the other volunteers remind me of "Shawshank Redemption."

On we go...
